Sometimes I question what’s the one thing I can do as an artiste and musician, that I would otherwise lack the ability to achieve had I not chosen this path.
Is it to entertain and bring fun to crowds? I could, too, entertain with my words.
Is it to rise to the top with fame and money? I’m sure there are easier ways to get rich.
One thing comes to mind that has become increasingly important lately — is to express an opinion to a wider audience with the mission to mobilise them to leave the world a bit better, and to let them know that they have the agency to walk their own path in however challenging ways.
This is achieved through honesty and resilience — by showing them what you can do with every breath despite difficult circumstances, and holding your ground and expressing where you morally stand in times of conflicts.
This is extremely difficult to achieve in a commercial world, because an artiste is placed in a passive position by default, not quite as an individual, but as a small part of a whole institution who is held accountable for every word spoken.
However, that should not stop each of us from striving to be that person who restores faith in a city where we find both the best and worst of humanity.
If your existence has made one good soul breathe easier, you have planted a seed to make it easier for the rest of humanity. Each moment of silence is an opportunity lost.
Be that planter.
